Accutane Journal 2008 : Accutane Side Effects

January 14, 2008

If you haven’t heard about Accutane then you have been living under a rock. This is a supposed miracle cure for acne, but it isn’t without its side effects. Accutane side effects can range from birth defects to liver damage. The way it works is it kills all the bacteria in your skin. Just a few pills a day for 6 months and your skin will be free of acne.

Despite my pleading my sister has decided to take Accutane. I set up a blog for her to document her experience, which I hope will help those making a decision about this powerful drug. If you want to read up on her experience and journey head over to her blog: Accutane Side Effects Journal .

Oh and be a good blogger and leaver a few words of encouragement on her blog 🙂

  3. I wish your sister lots of luck. 🙂 I took 80mg/day for 6 months back in 2004 and since then my skin has been 99% clear.

Tell her to get ready and buy some eye drops, lip balm, aquaphor healing ointment, anti-dandruff shampoo, moisturizing shampoo, and drink lots of water.

  4. Accutane is a very effective acne cure that can help prevent extensive scarring in many patients with severe acne.If Differin, Retin A, or oral antibiotics don’t work within 6 months Accutane may be able to clear acne and then some topical medications can be effective.

  5. I had a lot of reservations about taking accutane, however, I decided it was better than continuing to take antibiotics for years to come.

I have taken antibiotics every single day for eleven years. I talked to my dermatologist, and he said that women break out well into their 40s. I’m 25 now and can’t imagine my face looking like it has for the next 15 years.

I am now on day 20 of my treatment. My face is dry, and it’s broken out worse. I’ve looked into other people’s blogs (and youtube posts) and that seems to be common.

I have dry lips (Dr. Dan’s Corti Balm is awesome for really chapped lips), a dry scalp (Head and Shoulders burned my scalp…I need to find a gentle dandruff shampoo), dry skin, and dry eyes.

Other than that, everything is normal. These side effects will be well worth it if it clears up my skin.
